Make a beret by cutting a circle of black felt. A large tea plate is a good choice for a pattern. The lightweight stiffener can be ironed on, and then the felt should be pulled to the inside.
Stitch the black bias binding to your gathered felt. To neaten, fold the bias binding over the felt.
To make the beret detail on the hat, roll a small piece of black felt and then stitch it to the hat. Finish by sewing a piece elastic under the hat to make it fit under your dog.
Make two small darts at the neck edge of each shirt’s back, the shirt front, and the shirt back. Place a small dart at the neck edge of each front piece.
Stitch the underarm and side seams by pining both shirt fronts to the shirtback. The seams can be pressed open by snipping the corners of the underarm.
Stitch across the shoulders by securing the fronts and back at the shoulder edges. The seams should be pressed open.
The sleeve edges with small, hemmed hems and the lower edge should be cleaned.
You can either use a soft or a simple hem to neaten the neck edge. Stitch the bias binding to the right edge of the neck. Pin the binding to the right side of the neck edge. Then fold the binding over and hand stitch it in place.
The triangular scarf shape is cut out in red material. Sew a small hem around the edges. Do not press. Remove any hanging threads. Voila! The costume is done.
